Pilates Classes

Pilates
Pilates has something to offer to people of all ages and levels of ability and fitness.
Pilates is a safe and effective method of exercise and rehabilitation that focuses on muscular balance, flexibility and conditioning. Also, because it requires concentration it is a body-mind workout that also helps to reduce stress and anxiety.
Progressively flowing exercises develop as our fitness improves and so Pilates is suitable for :
-
Clinical rehabilitation (acute injuries, chronic musculoskeletal condition and surgery),
-
Therapeutic workout right through to a more demanding workout to improve overall health and fitness,
-
Improving sporting performance of the amateur and elite athlete.
By using small equipment, exercises are modified to focus, reduce or increase the effort required.
Chair Pilates
This class is for those with more specific mobility issues caused by significant joint problems / arthritic conditions. I teach the course applying the Pilates principles and exercises using greater support (chairs, leaning against the wall etc.) and a slower pace to challenge movement patterns that are often lost with chronic conditions but with a focus on everyday activities.
I have 20+ years’ experience of treating chronic and acute musculoskeletal conditions and fully understand the underlying physiological and neurological changes that these problems cause and so you can be reassured you that this class be challenging within a safe environment to build confidence in meeting everyday challenges.

Individual & Clinical Pilates
I offer 1:1 Pilates for more specific musculoskeletal problems.
With my years of experience as a Registered Osteopath combined with my APPI qualification I am able to develop a course for clients following a carefully focused and tailor made rehabilitation program.
The types of problems that would be typical of needing a more specific exercise program would be:-
-
Chronic Spine pain and stiffness caused by disc pathologies, back and neck surgery, long term disability from non-specific back/neck pain.
-
Chronic Arthritic conditions which have reduced activity levels or pre/post-surgery (for instance hip, knee and shoulder surgery).
-
Sporting injuries or more general injuries.
-
Recurrent episodes of pain from underlying conditions such as scoliosis / spondylolistheses etc.
